Il commento Tralasciando il cannersese in cui è stato visto il film (dio bestia!), Mononoke Hime appare come un film un po’ anomalo nella filmografia di Miyazaki, soprattutto come tono. Non è un film che parla al cuore, nemmeno nei suoi momenti più lirici, ma contiene la classica contrapposizione miyazakiana tra progresso tecnologico e natura, in questo caso però mediata da Ashitaka, a testimone della maturazione della visione del regista.
